AUTUMN
(lyrics written & sang by M. Connelly)

...And then summer's gone again
Unassuming with its end;
Making way for an old friend-
    A worthless treasure creeps into view

Graceful with sweet simplicity;
Dying again - embracingly:
Unknowing - yet unquestioning;
Untainted by humanity-
    There's never been more proof

Cast the last of rainbow leaves-
With light brush strokes of subtleties;
Kids roll in the blanket its magic weaves;
As the laughing wind unveils the trees-
    Words will never do

***

Like a patient lion moving in for the kill-
Now is still moving, moving still;
Just coincidence, or the Immovable's will-
    And you wonder when you'll get yours

...And you wonder where you'll be this time next year-
Always miss the lesson- right now, right here-
And though you're listening, I wonder if you'll hear-
    When the voiceless winter roars...

...And then summer's gone again
